Seeking a Job in the Mining Industry 10 Must Join LinkedIn Group!

As you probably know by now LinkedIn is one of the best tool for discovering new openings outside of using recruiters or hanging around job boards.
A great feature about LinkedIn is that it allows for you to be contacted versus having to run after the employers or recruiters. Aim to have a quality profile and this will increase your chances of course, one thing you might want to make sure is that you visit the site regularly, join groups and take part in discussions this will definitely increase your chances of getting noticed.
So why would you want to join groups on LinkedIn? Good question by joining relevant group it gives you an opportunity to broaden your personal brand, plus the exposure to more people via interactions with group members will amplify that pretty quickly. So what can you expect to find by joining these groups, news postings, discussion boards, updates in general, networking, questions and answers etc.
Now…the tricky part what groups should you, as a job seeker within the mining industry be joining?
There is definitely not a lack of selections to choose from, with over 1,194,668 groups to pick from and no real restrictions (other than you are limited to 50 groups at one time) this can be somewhat overwhelming.
So we thought we could give you a head start by providing some recommendations:
1. Mining Industry Professionals
This group is for Mining Engineers and Mining Professionals who work in the Mining Industry, a great group for networking and building relationships to assist each other an important aspect for Job seekers. About 43,291 members at the moment.
2. Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Group
This group focus is of International contributors with members in nearly 100 countries it allows for discussions from around the world within the Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration professionals. SME membership is almost 12,000 strong.
3. The Gold Mining Group
The purpose of this group is to discuss the industry and mining companies, as a job seeker staying on top of industry news is of great value. Group has now over 5,800 members.
4. Engineering, Oil & Gas, Mining and Construction Jobs
Well the name says it all; the group has 6,325 members and growing. It’s very active and we highly recommend you joining.
5. Mine Planning
This group attracts mining professional specifically directed to planning, new to the industry, interested in furthering your knowledge and or experience. The group is almost 2 years old and has over 3,000 members.
6. Global Mining jobs
Here’s another group with a self explanatory title. Currently over 3,000 members.
7. Geology Professionals
Focus of this group is more directed towards Geologist, not necessarily within the mining industry but you can make some great connection & support amongst professionals. With just over 6,500 members it’s a great resource group.
8. Engineering Jobs Worldwide
A group for engineers’ again same as above group not specifically for the mining industry but some great information & jobs are shared. This group is large with over 78,000 members so definitely worth joining.
9. Engineering Career Opportunities
With close to 45,000 members this is a great group to join as many discussion on current career opportunities, more directed towards engineering.
